Should I have AC guy install another filter in furnace unit?

My furnace motor blower was dead and need to replace. I found out the furnace was without filter. The only filter I found was the big opening in ceiling that I changed the filter every quarter. Repair guy suggested that he can install a filter box for the furance unit. Should I take his advice? Would that increase the work load of the central air unit as it need to get air from 2 filters?

You coil is gone give you hard time in the summer is clog with dust and you need to have a filter there is better. If you have on retur then you good if more I recomand to install on furnace one.Good luck
If the the ‘big opening in the ceiling’ (return air opening) has a filter in it, you shouldn’t need a second filter at the furnace itself. The only exception to that would be if you had multiple return air openings in your house and some of them did not have filters, but most houses only have one. The main thing to be concerned with when it comes to filters is the quality of filter. Spend the extra money to get the pleated filters rather than the cheap ones you can see through (if you can see through it dust can get through).
How old is your furnace? Ancient?? Your furnace should have an opening for a filter that you can install yourself in a matter of seconds. You just stick it in! You can buy them from any hardware store or at the grocery store. It won’t increase the workload. You just have to remember to change it out – every 30, 60, or 90 days depending on the filter.
Your best best us to remove the filter in the big opening. The tech will install a filter rack on the furnace. Thats the best route to go. As you probably have a mesh style filter in the big opening and they really dont filter much of anything. I would let the tech install the filter rack and run a pleated filter in it.
You dont need two filters I suspect the one that you have is not doing its job cause it a mesh style filter which is the worst filter you can use, I would not even call it a filter.
