First of all, check throughout the basement for air leaks because a new furnace will not help much with leaks throughout the home. New windows make a great difference if you have them. If you want a good furnace, go with a Bryant, 90% efficient, can get the whole package deal with compressor as well. Be careful about contractors that you don’t get screwed! They are out there.
Old Luxaire furnace : $300.00 a month for energy.
Bryant furnace: $100.00 or a bit more on energy.
Older homes I have seen have “8″ piping, as the newer homes go with the “6″ because I lived in them both.
Each register should have it’s own line direct from the furnace or you will have very little heat from that register splitting them with T’s.
